Bleach Bypass was a post processing effect that was applied to film. In other words the effect was added during the final printing stages. It was achieved by skipping (bypassing) the bleaching process. This in effect created a black and white image over a colour image. The colours are desaturated, however the contrasts (the shadow areas) are deep, moody and captivating. A beautiful effect now available to digital users.
